April Home Trip

Saturday, April 9 - Monday, April 25 2011

April 13 marked the one-year birthday of our niece, Kamryn - what better time to come home for a visit and see family and friends!

We were able to spend 4-5 days over on the farm with Ang’s family and baby Kamryn.  It's amazing at how much she’s changed since December (including walking and one tooth)!

We even had the opportunity to play “mom and dad” a couple of times, our longest stint being a trip to Spokane to drop off our Aunt Terri at the airport (great to see her as well!), then running a few errands in town.  Throughout the day we realized a lot of things about parenting: 1) Everything takes about 2x longer with a young child involved; 2) It’s hard to tell what would be interesting to a baby until you’ve tried EVERYTHING to keep them occupied in a store so you can successfully complete your errands; and 3) Babies hate car seats as much as we hate trying to get them into their car seat.  Lucky for us, Kamyrn is super fun and pretty easy to please, not to mention so darn cute.  It’s funny how you try so hard to entertain a baby when in reality they are far more entertaining than we are.

We are so glad to have been able to spend that quality time with her - we had a great time that day, enjoyed the challenge and learned a lot - we’re practically set (yeah right… no Swiss babies)!

On the topic of babies, the timing of our trip worked out perfectly from that perspective.  While we were in town, Ang’s cousin Kristin and JP had their first (Xavier), and our friends Ryan and Afton had their second (Jack).  We had a quick visit with each of them and were happy to see that everyone is doing great.

Of course we also hung out a lot with Dave’s family (his extended relatives even made a special trip down from Lynden one Sunday) and saw our friends from the Bellevue area.  It was the weeks leading up to Dave’s birthday (and Roger’s) while we were in the States, so we went out a couple times to celebrate… although we traditionally don’t need a lot of reasons to celebrate when hanging out – it’s always a great time!

As always, the visits are too short back at home with our friends and family.  We love you all very much and while we love our time over here and all the adventures, there’s nothing better than home! :)
