Happy Birthday to Ang!

This past weekend was Ang’s 28th birthday -- woo hoo!  One of the recurring themes of Ang’s birthdays (…and Christmas, and anniversaries, and Dave’s birthday…) is the desire for a dog or two.  Unfortunately over the last few years it just hasn’t made sense for us to get a dog (we want a large breed yet also want our dog to have a yard to play in), and now it especially doesn't make sense in Switzerland -- 61 square meter apartment -- (plus how would we communicate with a French speaking dog?).  So, what’s the next best thing?  Dog sitting!  One of the Vice Presidents of our Geneva Expedia office is the proud owner of a 12-year-old black lab, named King Kong (Kong for short).  In a roundabout way we were given the opportunity to watch him for the weekend – the perfect birthday present for Ang (lucky for Dave).

Besides the fact that we love dogs, the situation worked out really well for us logistically.  Kong’s house is a little over 5 minutes from our place, which allowed us to take quick trips back and forth as needed.  He’s such a sweet, calm and well-behaved dog that we felt comfortable taking him all around town with us when we ran errands and he was content just relaxing at our house when we wanted to sit around.  Ang fell in love with him-- and we ended up spending every second of the weekend with him, other then when we went out for a birthday dinner.

Of course Kong wasn’t the only treat on Ang’s birthday.  Dave’s parents spoiled her with Cheetos and Tootsie Rolls (both non-existent in Geneva) and Ang’s mom sent over some cake and muffin mixes (traditional favorites for Ang’s birthday).  Dave proved himself to be an excellent baker (self-proclaimed) as shown from the photos.  

Overall, a great relaxing birthday weekend and an acceptable rain check on getting a dog or two. :)  We look forward to Kong-sitting more in the future!
