From one legendary concert to the next in just 2 days. Elton John has “tried” to play in the Geneva arena twice already within the past year. His original show was cancelled due to the timing of the adoption of his baby and we actually tried to scalp tickets for the makeup show, which when we arrived and realized nobody was around, found out it was cancelled because he was sick. We think the people of Geneva lost hope because we were actually able to purchase tickets online for round three (the previous shows were sold out). Their loss, our gain!

Although we had a smidgen of doubt that he would actually show up, we left work with anticipation as Elton John has been on the top of our list for many years. He didn’t disappoint. We arrived just a couple minutes after 8 and walked in to him already playing, “The One” (the Swiss are very punctual with their start times!). The show was great. He played most (but not all) of our favorites. The only downside (in Dave’s opinion) was that it was just him and the piano most of the time (plus a crazy percussion guy on a few songs… that was pretty phenomenal) as opposed to the full band sound like most fans are used to. Regardless it was so enjoyable to sit and listen, after all these years that we’ve been fans of his, to one of the greatest piano players in the history of music. And his voice is still amazing. It can’t be all that common for a musician to still sound incredible 40 years after his career took off. Alas, he did not perform in crazy costumes as he has done in decades past. :)
While it was a pretty relaxed show (the Swiss are not crowd surfers, we’ll put it that way), they did invite people up next to the stage for the final, more lively, songs and the encore. Since we were in the upper deck most of the show, we used that opportunity to sneak in for a closer look at the end.
All in all, this was one of the best concerts (in Ang’s opinion) that we’ve been to, to date. FANTASTIC.
We’ll leave you with a few clips of our favorites throughout the evening…

Love your Elton concert. I saw him in 1974. I am so glad you guys like his music too and that he is still around making great music 37 years later. He did have lot of fun costumes like the duck outfit in '74. Unfortunately, there weren't any cell phones back then so it is all in my mind, not captured in pictures. Thanks for sharing.
